Best Fishing Trip Ever .... And the best was yet to come!

Think about Peter's day in Luke 5.  It actually started the night before as he got ready to go to work.  Overnight fishing trips were the normal routine for this commercial fisherman.  Two boats and at least four men would set out from home as their families were heading to bed.  This had been their pattern for years. Cold weather, rain storms, hot and humid nights, none of these were unusual for these fishermen.  After securing their catches in the morning as the sun rose there would still be much work.  They would need to repair and take care of upkeep on their boat.  Then there would be the washing and minding of their nets to prepare for the next nights harvest.  Cleaning weights, repairing holes,  checking every inch for weak spots that might tear in a big catch.  Just because the sun was up and the boats back on shore does not work was over.  But this day was a little unusual.  There was a crowd gathered to hear Jesus of Nazareth teach.  Peter was no doubt listening while he repaired his nets.  He was probably grateful for the entertainment.  Then this new rabbi was walking toward him and asking him to push out from the land and let him teach from the boat.  It wasn't to difficult of a task for a qualified fishermen like Simon.  Still it was not as convenient for him to finish his tasks that he had ahead before he could go home for the day to get a little rest.  Tired and no doubt frustrated from working all night without any reward, Simon agreed and pushed out a little from the shore. He listened as the Master taught that day.  Obviously, it made an impression because when the Master finished His speaking, He told him to push out further and let out the nets.  Simon knew this was not the time of day to fish.  He knew he had tried that spot last night.  He knew he was tired, hungry, and just wanted to go home.  He also probably thought he knew more about fishing this lake than the Rabbi.  But the Master had made such an impression that he complied and let out the nets.  What followed was the greatest fishing trip anyone has ever taken.  Fish weren't jumping out of the net.  They were jumping into the net.  So many fish it filled two boats to the point of sinking and they dragged the nets behind them with more.  Never had Simon seen anything like this.  It was a miracle.  The Rabbi had complete control of even the fish in the sea.  Surely, Peter thought this was the best day ever.  But then the Lord told him to follow him and He would make them to be fishers of men.  Basically, Jesus told them, you think catching fish is a miracle, wait to you see the haul you pull in at Pentacost.  The best day Simon could imagine was nothing to the Savior.  He had so much more in store.  On our best days....  On our worst days...  On the easy days.... On the hard days....  The Best is Yet to Come...
